Much of the waterbed association's energy and resources are spent educating health professionals and consumers on the benefits of waterbeds. These benefits include backache relief due to back and full body support, easing of arthritis and rheumatism by the warmth generated, reduced dust allergies and relief for burn victims, amongst many other benefits. For more general users, waterbeds have been proved to improve sleep times, thus reducing stress and improving general well-being.
The British Waterbed Association was formed at the beginning of the 1980's by a group of six waterbed retailers and one vinyl mattress manufacturer. Their common interest provided the opportunity to get together to promote the use of waterbeds. Little by little the waterbed has increased its share of the UK bed market. Over the years the UK waterbed industry has attracted ever more dedicated specialists as well as numerous bed retailers including back care stores, conventional bed stores and department groups.
